1. An explanation of how to make the cable work.

HDMI is a digital format, and that's what's normally output on an HDMI plug. Component video/audio is analog format. The two formats are incompatible, which is to say they don't work with each other.
A cable can't convert between the two formats; it's just a set of wires.
The output device must do the conversion by generating an analog signal on the HDMI plug. If the output device can't be configured to do that, then the cable will appear to not be working.
I'll say it again, with a different emphasis. Since HDMI output is usually digital, YOU will probably have to RE-CONFIGURE your output device to generate an analog signal on the HDMI output before it will work.
If your output device can't be configured to convert to analog on the HDMI plug, then you'll need to buy an HDMI-to-component video/audio converter. I've seen them on line for $30-40.
I think vendors could do a much better job of enlightening their customers, though.

I'm pissed! i wanted a cable to work like it says! comp2HDMI doesn't work! I bough mine from buy.com they had a link to here! fyi piece of crap when i plugin into my hdmi on VIZIO from my REPLAYTV PVR5500 component video it makes ALL hdmi input black out like shorting them. i switch to other hdmi inputs they are blacked out also only happens when this cable is pluged in. wheen i unplug it the other hdmi inputs work. buy wont except it back.

they say it will play HDMI output on a television with component video input. I call for customer assistance and they say it won't play component down-conversion on an HD set. So it doesn't actually work at all. Shipping was more than the product so it costs money to return it. shitty product, shitty business practices.

Just to let you all know that this lead does not work it would appear that you cannot go from a HDMI outlet to a component inlet,
Waste of money and time, lead was cheap but because it was shipped abroad the whole thing was a great expence, and system is still not working.

Order processing and delivery good but product doesn't get Computer HDMI signal out to component TV or Projector. TV works good with HDMI sources and component sources projector woks with component sources and doesn't have HDMI option. Computer doesn't have component output and I hoped to send computer HDMI to Component on projector. By the time I return a $10.95 item, I loose the shipping. I read on other sites that these cables don't work.

My own fault, why would anybody think you could convert HDMI (digital) signals to Component Vidio (analog) signals with just a cable, but I did not stop to think about that untill after I oreder your product. But shame on you for leading me or anyone else into thinking it would.
