Solar Energy Stations

Central Research Institute
Central Research Institute, its predecessor was founded in March 1997 as Central Research Department, and changed its name to Central Research Institute in April 2005. In strong support of BYD Group's, CRL's continuous efforts, sustainable development, personnel quality and research level to a new level, with its strong research and development as a strong corporate backing, so that BYD can gain a firm foothold in the fierce market competition, and continue to grow and develop. After nearly 12 years of rapid development, CRL has already been more than 300 R & D Engineers, R & D headquarters is founded in Shenzhen, Ping Shan Industrial Park. Has 10 research units: Institute of Surface Technology, Dept. of Optoelectronics Technology, Dept. of Metal Materials, Dept. of Applied Materials, Dept. of Engineering Plastic, Dept. of Rubber Materials, Dept. of Advanced Ceramic, Dept. of Functional Materials, Dept. of Magnetic Materials, Engineering; a Materials Analysis and Test Center; and six functional departments: HS management committee, NPI project department, Finance, Procurement Section, Personnel Division, Dean's Office.
CRL has completed a number of R & D and scientific research results (products) in industrial production, research related to non-nickel-plating, plastics, surface water treatment technology transfer, the metal surface of the plastic decorative PVD technology, micro-arc oxidation of metal surface treatment, anodic oxidation treatment technology, metal injection molding technology, a variety of automotive-related products and miscellaneous rubber parts, automobile and IT industry related to a variety of plastics and specialty plastics, and automotive coatings and paints a variety of related products, laser engraving technology, laser holography technology.
After BYD strong investment and rapid development in recent years, now CRL has made considerable progress in the field of new materials, new technology research. CRL adhere to the road of industrialization on the basis of doing basic research and development. The Product Office was set up in April 2007, for the purpose of industrial development to provide strong technical and platform support. According to company's development needs, The Product Office have been incorporated into Division 18 In February 2008. At the same time, NPI projects Department was formally established, adopt a new management concept and management models, by the NPI project department to guide new projects into project management and production work. NPI Project Department is responsible for a full course of follow-up of new projects, assist and advance the progress from the project, quality, cost, risk and other aspects of effective controls to ensure that research and development phase of new projects by the efficient and smooth transition to volume production, lowering overall project risks.

Auto Engineering Research Institute
The Auto Engineering & Research Institute was founded in August 2003. As BYD's auto R&D center, it has the capability of new vehicle designing and development in house, possesses a series of key technologies on car styling, body, chassis, interior and exterior decoration, electric appliance, and CAE & NVH analysis. It has successfully developed many car models such as F3, F3R, F6, F0, S8, G3, M6 and F3DM, and has many new car models under developing, among which there is SUVs, Buses and Sedans for family or business use. Besides, Auto Engineering & Research Institute holds all-round design ability and professional test capability, which guarantee the strong development of BYD auto unit. After nearly 6 year's development, BYD Auto Engineering & Research Institute has formed a faculty of 2,000 engineers until 2009, relocated to the company's headquarter Ping Shan and established 3 functional departments, General Office, Cost Section and HR Section, to support its operation, and 11 departments of car design or vehicle engineering, i.e. Integration Design Department, Car Body Department, Auto Electrical Department, Chassis Department, Interior & Exterior Department, E-bus R&D Department, CAE Department, NVH Department, Auto Safety Research Department, Auto Material Research Department Prototyping Department, ID Design Center, and Vehicle & Auto Parts Testing Center.
As a technical department of vehicle design and development, Automotive Engineering Research Institute undertakes in-depth technical study so as to achieve breakthroughs constantly in vehicle design, and to enhance the overall research and development capabilities.
The widespread use of computer technology in Automotive R&D process has greatly accelerated the pace of vehicle development and reduces cost. BYD Auto Engineering & Research Institute is capable of three-dimensional engineering design, and CAE strength and collision simulation. In recent years, we will focus on the following computer simulation areas: virtual reality modeling technology, vehicle size control engineering, CFD, NVH, early fatigue analog control, etc..
Rapid prototyping is frequently used in the modeling and design process to verify the structure and arrangement of parts. BYD has already formed a team with strong prototyping means and capabilities, and have taken the leading position among domestic own-brand counterparts in the areas of simulation car production, vehicle pre-production, production of half section demo car and prototype hand sheet metal parts through using of advanced processing technology during production.
Automobile is a test of science to some extent, and capability of testing labs is essential for the development of automotive products.
In recent two years, BYD invests a lot to raise the overall level of its original test facility, and has built several world class laboratories for essential vehicle tests.
The main building and the extension include 98 labs such as material testing room, the surface properties laboratory, magnetic laboratory, airbag pulley lab, multimedia lab, semi-anechoic chamber, EMC lab, engine test room, and gearbox performance test room, etc,.
BYD proving ground was established in October 2007, based on the landform, the overall design shaped like a handset.
It covers a total area of 230 acres and consists of three main parts, the high-speed ring road for continuous high speed road test, the stress testing road which includes different types of road surface for fatigue and reliability tests, and the performance test facilities, which include performance tests square, a long straight test road, brake test road and an test slopes.
Therefore, most of the test requirements in the development process of a new model can be satisfied in-house.
NVH performance of the vehicle relates directly to passenger's feeling of smoothness, comfort and sound definition. A large-scale NVH lab can provide a better research platform of the vehicle NVH problems.
Thus BYD is undertaking the construction of a semi-anechoic chamber for four wheel drive vehicle, an anechoic chamber, a reverberation room, and a model test lab. We also plan to establish a series of NVH test labs, such as semi-anechoic chamber for four wheel drive power train system, an abnormal sound diagnostic lab, etc., so as to support our in-depth NVH studies.
BYD crash test facility provides good inspection platform for BYD car models and good means for quality control. When construction finished, it will be capable of conducting all round collision tests like front, side, offset impacts, rolling test, pedestrian protection test, etc., which will be helpful for the study of body construction and vehicle interior and exterior design.
EMC test lab is equipped with an advanced 10 meter dark chamber, CISPR25 dark chamber, large scale four wheel drive dynamometer and other testing equipments, and will become a global top-ranking EMC test lab after construction, which is capable of conducting all round EMI, EMS tests of vehicle and electrical components.
As the core research department, the Auto Engineering & Research Institute provides powerful technical support to the continuous development of BYD Auto. Electric Power Research Institute
Founded in Dec.2008 in Ping Shan, Shenzhen, the headquarter of BYD Company Limited, BYD Energy Power Research Institute is committed to energy power science and renewable energy development and application with the purpose to cope with the intensifying crisis of global warming as well as energy shortage with high-safety and highly efficient energy solutions. Current research subjects of the institute focus on energy storage system and PV generation system design and application. There are more than 200 employees specialized in technology development and management by the end of 2009.
BYD Energy Power Research Institute offers customers and partners covering domestic or foreign governments, grid operators, energy power research organizations or business utility with high-safety and highly efficient energy storage solutions featuring a wide technology portfolio covering renewable energy generation, power transmission and distribution, power feedback with battery storage system, communication as well as product development, facility construction, operation status monitor, etc.
Within only 7 months, BYD Energy Power Research Institute has successfully established a 1MW battery based energy storage station, 200kW energy storage container and a 1MW PV Generation. The 1MW battery based energy storage station is the ever first one in the world with Fe-battery as storage media with following functions: Peak shaping, load leveling, power quality improving, and utility efficiency improving. The storage container is characterized with following functions: Short construction lead time, longer life, easy accessibility, higher reliability, less pollution, and less space. It has promising market foreground. The 1MW PV generation, bearing a design capacity of 1MW and with an area of 12,000 sq.m., is empowered with the in-house developed Multi-crystalline PV panels with 14.7% conversion efficiency. It has been put into application and well worth visits.

BYD established the Intellectual Property Rights and Law Management Department, handling intellectual property right issues and legal affairs. By Mar 4, 2009, BYD has been granted 2362 patents. BYD has complete intellectual property rights on its products and proprietary production systems, which endows the company powerful core competitiveness.
To meet the international market competition and ensure corporate long-term development, BYD constitutes hybrid offensive and defensive intellectual property strategy.

In November, 2009, BYD set up scholarship in Zhongnan University, with an amount of RMB 620,000 per year and a total amount of RMB 12,400,000 in 20 years. Zhongnan University BYD Scholarship includes Excellent Student Scholarship and Excellent Teacher Scholarship. 100 students, including 60 undergraduates, 30 masters and 10 doctors, can receive the Excellent Student Scholarship, an amount of RMB 5000. The Excellent Teacher Scholarship is awarded to 10 teachers.
